FAQ

WHAT IS COWORKING?

Coworking is the use of an office or other working environment by people who are self-employed or working for different employers, typically so as to share equipment, ideas, and knowledge.

Within the next 5 years, 40% of the American workforce will be independent freelancers, consultants, and entrepreneurs. Even those who are part of teams increasingly have the freedom to choose where, when, and how they work. The coworking movement – with its dedication to the values of collaboration, openness, community, accessibility, and sustainability – evolved out of the needs of this rapidly growing group of people.

In early 2015, The Global Coworking Unconference Conference and Small Business Labs/Emergent Research surveyed regular and occasional coworkers across America:

  • 89% of respondents said they are happier because they cowork
  • 84% said they are more engaged and motivated
  • 83% said they are less lonely
  • 82% had expanded their professional networks by coworking
  • 80% had turned to fellow community members for help & guidance
  • 78% said coworking helps them maintain their sanity
  • 69% had learned new skills
  • 69% felt more successful
  • 64% said their coworking network is an important source of work

DO I HAVE TO SIGN A LEASE AGREEMENT?

No. Halcyon Works is Membership-based only, so no leases are required. Members are required to sign a Membership Agreement and Respectful Use Policy.

WHO IS THE TYPICAL HALCYON WORKS MEMBER?

Each of our members have chosen to work alongside and connect with each other – in and outside of our office – to improve ourselves, our businesses, our community, and our city. Beyond that, we represent all ages, backgrounds, and industries.

WHAT ARE THE ACCESS HOURS FOR EACH MEMBERSHIP TYPE?

Our office is attended by Halcyon Works staff, including a full-service receptionist Monday-Friday from 9AM-5PM. Halcyon Works is accessible 24/7 to Full-Time Members.

  • Full Time Members – 24/7 keyless entry access*, 5 hours conference time per month, all-access to amenities
  • Drop In Members – Weekly Pass or Daily Pass,  M-F, 9-5 access
  • Event Membership – Event Members may use the space after hours for $150 an hour. Special rates, quotes and amenities addressed on a per member basis.
  • 24/7 keyless entry access will be issued after a two week waiting period.

HOW WILL I BE BILLED?

If you’d like to be billed on a month-to-month basis, we will need a credit card to start your membership. You may begin on any day of the month, and that will be your bill date moving forward. Credit card subscriptions are processed online or in-person via Paypal or Square.

MAY I SCHEDULE A TOUR?

Absolutely – contact us to schedule a tour. Afterwards, we encourage you to stick around and enjoy your first day of coworking – free of charge! That gives you a chance to meet more of our members and experience how we work around here.

Overflow parking is available in the adjacent east lot. If you’re not familiar with our location or nearby parking, view our map.

CAN I BOOK ONE OF YOUR CONFERENCE ROOMS?

Use of our meeting rooms is limited to registered members. It’s just one of the many perks of membership. We recommend registering for Drop-In Membership and adding on conference time.

HOW DO I BECOME A HALCYON WORKS MEMBER?

  1. If you haven’t stopped by for a tour and free day of coworking, we highly recommend doing so.
  2. Like us? Awesome! Visit our membership system to sign up, choose your plan, and fill out the form to pay.
  3. On your first day as a member in the space, you will need to sign our Respectful Use Policy. Also, set aside about 10 minutes for an orientation tour. We’ll show you where to find supplies, how to book meeting rooms, set you up to use the printer, and more.
  4. If you have signed up for a 24/7 Access membership, you will receive access after our two week waiting period.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE CANCELLATIONS?

We ask that members give 7 calendar days notice for all cancellations.

HOW’S THE INTERNET CONNECTION?

Access to our AT&T Fiber wifi is included in all Halcyon Works Memberships.

Our network is managed and monitored by Founding Member, Tim Cooper of CooperHouse. Contact him with any questions you have regarding connection.

AS A MEMBER, CAN I HAVE VISITORS STOP BY?

Absolutely! This is your office and we want you and your guests to feel at home.

We trust that you’ll know when your visitor has crossed over to guest coworking. If someone is using a lot of our resources, they should purchase a Day Pass or officially join our community – giving them all the sweet perks associated with doing so. Memberships are what keep Halcyon Works alive and thriving.

Visitors are people who stop in for a short time to meet with or visit a member for less than two hours. Examples include family members visiting for lunch, clients or potential customers, or interview candidates.

I AM ON THE PHONE A LOT. HOW DOES THAT WORK?

You are free to make and take calls at a respectful volume in our open areas – we like a little productive background noise around here. If you need more privacy, our phone booth is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We’ve noticed that “walk-and-talk”ers like to pace the library or sidewalk outside. You’re also welcome to schedule a meeting room.

WHAT ARE THE COLLABORATIVE BENEFITS OF COWORKING?

The truth is, it really depends on the member, and their goals. If you are working for a company in another state, it’s unlikely that you will be able to collaborate during the regular workday with a member who works in an entirely different industry.

You can experience and enjoy the benefits of working among other human beings without needing to “collaborate” with them on your daily work. That being said, collaboration can take many forms. For example, a member might hire a coworker who owns a photography business to shoot a wedding, or someone might ask the designer that sits next to them to review the resume of a potential design hire.

Members who realize that they share the same commute might start biking to work together and folks interested in learning to code may start a Meetup. While we’ll throw the occasional mixer or brainstorming lab, the organic connections are what we really try to cultivate at Halcyon Works.

Furthermore, we know all our members are hardworking, busy individuals and we value their time. We promise to never burden members with over engineered ice-breaking gimmicks or cheesy corporate events. If it’s not fun, and it doesn’t benefit the members, we won’t host it.

DO YOU HOST MEMBER EVENTS?

Yes, we host regular member happy hours, lunch trips and after-work events (film screenings, parties, classes etc.) Whether or not you meet new people is up to you! If that’s important to you then make sure you introduce yourself to fellow coworkers, attend happy hours, strike up conversations at the coffee bar, and participate on the Slack channels.

We also encourage members to organize their own get-togethers and events. If you have an idea, give us a shout! We do our best to facilitate an active and welcoming member community, but you’ll get out of it what you put in.

WHOSE ART IS HANGING ON YOUR WALLS?

The art in our space is by Christopher Dorr and founding Member, Erin Cooper. Most pieces are for sale. Inquire with Erin if you’d like more information.

DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER LOCATIONS?

We do not, but you should check out our local friends:

  • STARSPACE46 (Film Row District)
  • THE BARN OKC (Plaza District)
  • THE COLLECTIVE (Edmond)

MAY I HOLD AN EVENT OR MEETING AT HALCYON?

We offer one free evening event to all Full Time Members each year. The event must be business-related and guest lists must be kept. Full Time Member will be in charge of returning the space to workday conditions.
